The Frogs of Armagedon

The Frogs of Armagedon

Many people believe that according to the book of Revelation, before Jerusalem can be divided, an event at a place called Armagedon must take place.  And they are correct.

“Then they gathered the kings together to the place that in Hebrew is called Armageddon.

Revelation 16:16

But what is this event and where is Armagedon? Many think that Armageddon is a literal battlefield in Israel. Do the words of scripture prove this? Does reason support it?

The words used in scripture have original meanings and can be found in materials such as lexicons and concordances. Strong’s Concordance is perhaps the most familiar to many. For scripture written in Greek it perhaps the most exhaustive, but for Hebrew the Chaldean Lexicon adds much more texture to many Hebrew words.

Ἁρμαγεδών or Armagedon is described in Strong’s Concordance G717 as being of Hebrew origin har and Megiddon.

Even Strongs’s tells us to look at the Hebrew, and I agree. One thing I have come to understand in researching scripture is that Yeshua (Jesus) and his disciples spoke Hebrew. Hebrew not Greek was their mother tongue. If you insist on the Greek supremacy of scripture, then I fear you cut yourself off from the fullness of truth and you can stop here.

To understand Har-Magedon מגדו הר we need to start first by looking at the original Hebrew.

Har or הר means a hill or a mountain.  There is a place in Israel called Megiddo, but it has no hills or mountains and is called the plain of Megiddo. In Hebrew a plain is written as בקעה or “biqah.” The Plain of Megiddo would be מגדו בקעה. It also makes military sense that the “armies” of the kings would not assemble on a mountain, but on a plain.

In trying to make sense of this topographical anomaly many bible scholars look to other explanations. One such is Rousas Rushdoony who says, "There are no mountains of Megiddo, only the Plains of Megiddo. This is a deliberate destruction of the vision of any literal reference to the place." Other scholars, including C. C. Torrey, Kline and Jordan argue that the word is derived from the Hebrew moed (מועד), meaning "assembly". Thus, "Armageddon" would mean "Mountain of Assembly," which Jordan says is "a reference to the assembly at Mount Sinai, and to its replacement, Mount Zion."

I doubt that Yahweh would reveal something only to hide it, nor would Yahweh break HIS word but I have no doubt that John the Disciple was a Jew, and what Yahweh revealed to him was received by him in his mother tongue of Hebrew, not Greek.  The question becomes, did John reveal this Revelation in Hebrew or Greek to others? If he revealed it by speaking in Hebrew and it was the listeners who wrote it down to translate it into Greek then perhaps there is another possibility that makes sense.

To explore these possibilities we need to understand that in Hebrew names are not just words and names have a specific meaning. Jesus, or in Hebrew Yahosha means “Yahweh saves.” The meaning of Magedon according to the Hebrew Chaldee Lexicon is “the place of crowds.”

Har could have been the word Ar or Ayr עיר which is city or “a place guarded by waking,” which is a city that never sleeps, combined with the hey (ה) prefix for the definite article “the” to form  העיר which becomes har or hayr.  It then translates into “the city,” or “the city that never sleeps.” What if what John understood was מגדו עיר or העיר מגדו which becomes ar megiddon or har megiddon, which would sound very much like Armagedon to the Greek ear. John would have understood that to mean “the city that never sleeps, the place of crowds where the kings of the earth assemble.”  Is there such a place?

The answer is yes, and we all know it. New Your City is known as the city that never sleeps, it is quite literally a place of crowds, and it is the home of the United Nations, the place where the kings of the world assemble.

President Obama is coming to Jerusalem this week, and all indicators suggest that he is going to try and restart the Israeli-Palestinian peace process along Clinton parameters.

What should not be overlooked is who gathered the kings to Armagedon.

Then I saw three evil spirits that looked like frogs; they came out of the mouth of the dragon, out of the mouth of the beast and out of the mouth of the false prophet. They are spirits of demons performing signs, and they go out to the kings of the whole world, to gather them for the battle on the great day of God Almighty.

Revelation 16:13-14

The day President Obama enters Jerusalem will be March 20th of 2013 and it is World Frog Day.

Both Obama’s domestic and international popularity is sinking fast and he is desperate to improve his image. Iran has called him irrelevant because of his mistakes and hands off approach he has taken to the Middle East and told him to leave the area. Becoming the great peacemaker will in his mind restore his political capital both here and abroad. His popularity in Israel among the Jewish population is near zero, which means he has very little to loose putting the lion’s share of concessions on them. He is also looking at the political landscape. He knows that Netanyahu’s collation is fragile and it survival would indeed be a miracle. He will be betting that Netanyahu will make the deal for his own survival.

While the United Nations, the beast from the sea, and the Vatican, the beast from the earth, have expressly called for Jerusalem to be a divided and become international city, only one spirit remains to speak. Obama has only indirectly called for the division of Jerusalem but he has not yet publically and personally called for it.  And it is this open support from Obama that is the missing key to unlock the fulfillment of John’s message.

After the last frog calls for the division and internationalization of Jerusalem.  Yahweh will speak.

The seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air, and out of the temple came a loud voice from the throne, saying, “It is done!”

Revelation 16:17
